The Montgomery County (MD) Advanced Practice Center developed the Emergency Preparedness Checklist for Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities and Group Homes to provide preparedness guidance for healthcare facilities. This interactive checklist, which poses a range of questions, is designed to ensure that healthcare facilities are well-prepared and also able to shelter in place and remain self-sufficient during a variety of emergencies. This tool is designed to assist in:
1. Emergency preparedness training, planning, and assessment
2. Annual quality-of-care surveys;
3. Follow-up inquiries and consultation; and
4. Contacting facility administrators during actual emergencies.
Although licensing and quality standards vary by jurisdiction, public health professionals and local, state, and federal regulators can view the checklist as a readily adaptable template. (For example, Licensure and Regulatory Services has incorporated the checklist into its annual quality-of-care surveys of nursing homes and large assisted living facilities.) The checklist includes space for facility contact information; an assessment of the building, its stockpiles (fuel, oxygen, generators), and its suppliers; staff training; and community outreach.
Materials submitted for this project consist of electronic documents and web
links, and combinations of both. If a component part appears to have more than
one link, this is why: CIDRAP saved the documents and reviewed both documents
and links when the practices were submitted for review. The external links
included here may be duplicative to some of the stored files, but they may
also be updated or provide additional useful information.
