Community Food Supply Outreach (WY)

From:  Public Health - Lincoln County, Wyoming
Description

A small, easily managed, and highly visible marketing project was achieved through a local health department's cooperative agreement with a grocery store. The health department's pandemic influenza planning committee coordinated a case lot sale of canned goods with the grocery store. Grocers placed lists of personal food stockpile items within the store. Customers who did not normally have the means to stockpile large amounts of food could access and store tangible preparedness products at lower prices and educate themselves with the associated materials. This project relies on building relationships and partnerships within the community. It could help grocers to understand their role in maintaining critical food supplies during a pandemic. This would be a simple project for a local or community group to undertake, yet it has the potential to meet diverse needs.
