Home Care Guide: Providing Care at Home During Pandemic Flu (CA)

From:  Santa Clara County Public Health Department (California)
Description

The Home Care Guide provides the public with extensive descriptions of how to care for family members at home during a pandemic. It is an excellent guidance, both comprehensive and well written. It includes several practical tips on assessing, isolating, and treating ill family members at home; gathering food; storing water; and assembling essential supplies to care for the ill. Fact sheets on pandemic and avian influenza, isolation and quarantine, and social distancing also provide clearly written and accurate education. The guidebook contains language that is aimed at lay people, while still providing guidance that is specific and practical to home care issues. The material is noteworthy in that it empowers the public to act more effectively as caregivers at home. Noted by one reviewer: The oral rehydration solution (ORS) recipe included in this guidance is slightly different from the American Red Cross recipe in that it does not contain a potassium source.
